U of I to privatize premium sports venue concessions

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - The University of Illinois has tentatively agreed to a $10 million contract with a national food service company to provide meals for athletes and fans in premium seats at Memorial Stadium and State Farm Center. The five-year, $10 million contract with Sodexo is pending approval of trustees next week. U of I has already negotiated an $8 million contract with Sodexo to provide concessions at all athletic facilities.

The school's Division of Intercollegiate Athletics previously provided that service. Susan Young is senior associate athletic director for business affairs at U of I. She says the school wants to privatize to increase revenue and minimize expenses. Sodexo would provide everything from buffets for athletes to desserts in luxury suites if the contracts are approved.
