U of I names California administrator law school dean

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - The University of Illinois has hired a legal scholar with long ties to California as the next dean of its College of Law. The university says VikramAmar will become the new dean on Aug. 16, pending approval of the university's board of trustees.
Amar is the senior associate dean for academic affairs at the University of California, Davis School of Law. He previously was a professor at UC Hastings and a visiting professor at UC Berkeley and UCLA.  Amar is a graduate of U-C Berkeley and the Yale Law School. Amar says he is "deeply impressed" by what he has seen of Illinois' law school. Amar replaces interim Dean John Colombo. He took over when Bruce Smith left the job in 2014.
