CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago health officials are making more public outreach efforts amid diagnosed cases of meningitis among men who have sex with men. The Chicago Department of Public Health says it will make free meningitis vaccines available Friday through Monday at different sites throughout Chicago. The department also plans to launch a public awareness campaign encouraging gay and bisexual man to talk to their doctors about getting vaccinated. Health officials say there have been six confirmed cases of meningitis among sexually active gay men, including one death, since the beginning of June. Of those patients, five were Chicago residents and one case was in suburban DuPage County. Last weekend about 1,000 meningitis vaccines were given out.
