Governor Bruce Rauner is surveying the devastated areas in Coal City. Illinois Public Radio's Yolanda Perdomo reports from North Central Illinois.
One by one residents shook hands and even hugged the governor as he toured a neighborhood hit hard by last night's tornado and storms. Most homes in this part of Coal City were built in the last 5 to 10 years. Many roofs are gone but neighbors are going from home to home to help pick up wooden planks and tree limbs scattered throughout the street. The governor has declared Grundy and Lee counties disaster areas. Residents here say despite the massive damage to homes and vehicles they feel very lucky that no one died or was seriously injured.
Reporting from tornado-damaged Coal City, I’m Yolanda Perdomo.
