Governor Rauner may turn to television to sway public opinion

Your favorite rerun may be interrupted with a special message from Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner. Or maybe not. The governor refused to say whether he's going to buy TV time to promote his agenda as he battles with the legislature's Democratic leaders.

Word is, that Rauner is planning to win over the public using commercials.  Senate President John Cullerton says the governor told him so last week.

"He made it clear that in the next few weeks he's going to launch a multi-million dollar negative ad campaign designed to demonize those who are standing up for the middle class."

Gov. Rauner won't confirm that.

"We're not gonna talk and speculate about messaging going forward."

So maybe he will, just not yet. Maybe he's holding off as an olive branch to Democrats. Or maybe it was a bluff in the first place; a negotiation ploy.  Whatever the case, he has the money to do it.  For now, Rauner is relying on a cheaper method; the governor is giving interviews to certain media outlets.
