Illinois legislative leaders say they're still open to negotiating with Gov. Bruce Rauner over the 2016 budget and Rauner's pro-business legislative agenda. But they say they won't reach a deal before the legislative session ends Sunday.
The Republican governor met Friday with Democratic Senate President John Cullerton and House Speaker Michael Madigan and GOP leaders Sen. Christine Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin.
Democrats want Rauner to approve new revenue to help balance their proposed 2016 budget. The $36.3 billion plan is more than $3 billion short of anticipated revenues.
Rauner says he won't consider a tax increase until Democrats give him some of his priorities, such as a property tax freeze.
The leaders say they'll keep talking in hopes of a deal before the 2016 fiscal year begins July 1.
