Immigration overhaul on hold

Starting today, an estimated 200-thousand undocumented immigrants in Illinois could have benefited from an immigration overhaul.  President Obama announced the plan last fall.

But a federal judge put it on hold, saying the president had abused his power.

Yesterday  in Chicago, Inhe Choi of the Korean American Resource and Cultural Center told immigrant advocates not to give up.

“Here in Illinois we have tens of thousands of Asian Americans who are ready and eager to apply for these programs.”

The main program would shield parents of U.S. citizens and permanent residents from deportation, and provide them work papers.
