Family in Illinois shooting case considering lawsuit

A Chicago-area lawyer for the family of a black teenager shot in the back and killed by a white police officer says they are considering a civil lawsuit.

The attorney for Justus Howell's family said Friday that he's going through documents and videos of the April shooting in suburban Zion. Matthew Dudley says a decision on legal action would come soon.

The family has criticized a state prosecutor's decision Thursday not to charge the police officer. Howell had allegedly been involved in an illegal gun sale and fled. The prosecutor said the shooting was justified because Howell had a gun as the officer chased him. He says Howell also turned toward the officer.

Dudley says it's unclear from a video of the shooting that Howell had a gun or turned.
