Illinois sees 107M domestic tourist in 2014

State officials say Illinois saw a record number of domestic visitors last year.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity say, Illinois had more than 107 million domestic travelers in 2014. That's a 3.8% increase over 2013.

State officials say the increase also means revenue from the hotel-motel tax went up too. The figure rose 6.4% to more than $250 million collected.

Numbers show that leisure travel saw strong growth last year. Day trips and overnight leisure travel rose 4.3% in 2014 from 2013. The numbers were released Thursday.
