DCFS director looks to Washington D.C. to bolster budget

The head of Illinois’ child welfare agency says he’s trying to find ways to get around budget cuts proposed by Governor Bruce Rauner.

George Sheldon, the director of DCFS says that he’s trying to raise money from Washington D.C.  so the state doesn’t end services to wards over the age of 18.

“That’s a short-term budget adjustment that I’m trying to figure if there’s a way that we can work around that. Illinois has not been maximizing federal dollars.”

Meantime, legislative leaders continue to negotiate next year’s budget before the end of the month.
