Nurses at the University of Chicago Medical Center voted to ratify a four-year contract.
National Nurses United announced the voting results Wednesday after informing members late Tuesday. Jan Rodolfo of National Nurses Unites says "a strong majority" of the nurses voted to approve the collective bargaining agreement.
Rodolfo says the union was able to accomplish its major goals during contract talks. She says the agreement eliminates the practice of scheduling nurses to rotate between day and night shifts. And it includes a 9.5% wage increase, divided over four years.
Debra Albert of University of Chicago Medical Center says in an online update for staff the agreement is "truly a positive step for all of us."
The nurses have been working without a contract since October.
