Chicago Blackhawks in race for first place as regular season ends

Peoria Public Radio

The Chicago Blackhawks play their final regular season home game Tuesday. The Hawks are battling for playoff position with three games left to play.

The Blackhawks face-off against the Minnesota Wild at 7:30 Tuesday night at the United Center. Chicago has already clinched a playoff spot, and right now they’re third in the central division.

The team is only three points behind the first place St. Louis Blues - that’s the equivalent of trailing by about a game-and-a-half.

The Hawks play the Blues in St. Louis on Thursday.

If Chicago can climb to first, they’ll have home ice for the first two rounds of the playoffs. And the team would likely face the Wild in the first round.

If the standings stay as they are, Chicago would start the playoffs on the road against the second place Nashville Predators.
