Illinois State unveils portrait of new president

Illinois State University has unveiled a portrait of President Larry Dietz.

Artist Rick Lewis says he wanted to capture Dietz's affability in the piece. Lewis graduated from Illinois State with a master's degree in art. Dietz is the school's 19th president. He took the post about a year ago after the disorderly conduct conviction and resignation of Timothy Flanagan.

Dietz says he thinks the portrait is "better than real life" and that Lewis captured "what I hope is an openness." Lewis created the painting after taking several photos of Dietz in the president's office.

ISU officials tell The portrait likely will be placed in the Bone Student Center once it is framed. It will be displayed along with portraits of previous ISU presidents.
