Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says the state’s anti-discrimination laws strike the right balance. That comes as Indiana lawmakers are reportedly trying to ease concerns that a new law would allow discrimination against gays and lesbians.
Rauner, a Republican, says he’s “troubled” by Indiana’s law.
“I believe that it may open the door for some discriminatory behavior and that would be bad.”
A draft of Indiana state lawmakers’ new legislation would bar businesses from using the controversial law as a legal defense for refusing to provide services based on sexual orientation.
