John Deere out of crop insurance business

After just nine years, John Deere is now officially out of the crop insurance business.

Yesterday, the sale was completed of the John Deere Insurance Company to Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company.

Farmers Mutual was founded in 1893, and is now based in West Des Moines. It sells private and federal crop insurance, plus policies for auto, property, and liability coverage.

Despite its relatively brief time selling crop insurance, John Deere had become one of the top ten providers nationwide.  It announced the sale to Farmers Mutual in December.
