Rauner wants Rams in Illinois

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says it may make more sense to build the St. Louis Rams’ new stadium in the Metro East.

As the football team considers moving to Los Angeles, Missouri officials have a preliminary plan to build a new stadium on the St. Louis riverfront. But former St. Louis Mayor Vince Scheomehl recently suggested that the Metro East may be a better location for the facility.

During a press conference in O’Fallon, Rauner told reporters that Illinois would be “terrific” place to build the Rams’ football stadium.

“We’ve got the infrastructure. We’ve got the hard-working people to build it. And we’ve got access into St. Louis without a lot of the congestion issues and a lot of the opportunity. It would be a wonderful development all the way around to build that in the Metro East and I’ll see what I can do to encourage that.”

The Rams are operating on a year-to-year basis at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
