Illinois Guard revokes soldier's clearance after ISIS arrest

A spokesman says the Illinois National Guard has revoked the security clearance of a member arrested on charges of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State group.

Lt. Col. Brad Leighton is public affairs director of the Illinois National Guard. He said Thursday that the guard was informed of a federal investigation of 22-year-old Hasan Edmonds of Aurora, who was arrested Wednesday night at Midway International Airport trying to board a flight to Egypt.

Leighton says the guard's focus was on "ensuring the safety of our soldiers, airmen and their families." He also says the guard won't let the arrest "detract us from fulfilling our missions."

dmonds was arrested with 29-year-old Jonas Edmonds, also of Aurora. The men are to appear in Chicago federal court later Thursday.
