Rauner: Pension reform should happen, regardless of court ruling

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he wants to pursue his pension proposal ... regardless of what the Illinois Supreme Court decides about the current law.

Justices heard arguments last week on a 2013 law that cuts current workers' and retirees' benefits.
Rauner says even IF -- and that's a big if -- the court upholds it ... more needs to be done...

"Even if the Supreme Court says the old pension change is fine, it doesn't fix enough of the problem."

The Republican says his plan saves more money, and is more reasonable ... because it doesn't affect  workers who are already retired.
Rauner's proposal calls for pension reductions going forward. Employees could also take a lump sum payout, and convert to a 401-k-style account.
