McLean County Health Officials Investigate Possible Measles Incident

The McLean County Health Department is investigating two potential measles cases in Bloomington Normal. A woman and a small female child presented themselves for treatment at OSF Promptcare on Fort Jesse Road in Normal on Sunday.

Health Department Spokeswoman Lisa Slater says testing will be done to determine whether the initial assessment is correct. She says measles is highly contagious from airborne droplets or contact with surfaces that have those droplets deposited on them.

"Patients are considered to be contagious about four days before and four days after the rash appears."

It may take several days for the test results to come in. Slater says OSF Healthcare took precautions to isolate both the patients and the facilities used by them until they could be decontaminated. So far this year the state has reported fifteen measles cases.
