The Illinois House has approved a plan that would add healthier snack options to vending machines at state rest areas and welcome centers.
The State House gave its unanimous OK on Thursday. Republican state Rep. Don Moffitt of Gilson, who is sponsoring the resolution, says the vending machines that he has seen don't have any healthy or low-calorie options.
The resolution would require machines to have at least three healthy selections of 220 calories or less for every 10 items. Two of the healthy options must also be from Illinois.
Moffitt says the resolution wouldn't require the machines to have fruits or vegetables, as he says that would take added maintenance.
