PharmaCann accepts its 2nd marijuana grow permit

An Oak Park company is being awarded a medical marijuana cultivation permit in a part of Illinois where another company recently abandoned its plans.

Illinois Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Kristi Jones said that PharmaCann was the next-highest scoring qualified applicant in District 1. Jones says PharmaCann has 15 days to provide the required $200,000 license fee and a $2 million surety bond or escrow account.

PharmaCann CEO Teddy Scott says his company is excited about the new opportunity. He says the company will accept the permit and proceed with a growing operation in Hillcrest. PharmaCann also plans to build a cultivation center in Dwight under another permit.

Green Thumb Industries LLC recently declined a permit for District 1, which covers Carroll, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside counties.
