Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he’s not getting involved in the run-off election for Chicago mayor. But he says he does speak with one of the candidates almost every day. Bruce Rauner wouldn’t say if he has a horse in the run-off race between incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel - or Cook County Commissioner Chuy Garcia.
"I’m staying out of it."
But he says he does speak with the 3rd place finisher in Tuesday’s election, Willie Wilson, all the time.
"Uhhh...I speak to him almost every day, every other day."
But when asked what they talk about…
"Oh, I don’t talk about the detail of my conversation with folks."
It’s known that Rauner, a Republican, and Emanuel, President Obama’s former chief of staff, are friends, but differ on some policies, and it’s known that Wilson endorsed Rauner for governor.
"Willie Wilson’s his own person. I don’t know what he’s gonna do."
A Wilson spokesman says Rauner has not asked the former candidate to endorse Emanuel.
Meantime, Rauner was asked if he has a problem with the Chicago Teachers Union supporting Garcia’s campaign. He said it should be illegal for any politician to take government union money in their campaign.
