Bill would tighten rules for vaccine exemptions in Illinois

An Illinois lawmaker wants to tighten the rules for parents seeking to exempt their children from vaccination requirements because of religious beliefs.
Sen. John Mulroe's bill would require parents to submit an objection form with a notarized "religious exemption statement" from a religious official.
Under current state law parents must only submit a statement detailing their religious objection.
Mulroe says the legislation is a response to a recent measles outbreak. The Chicago Democrat says: "What we don't want is someone's personal beliefs putting other people at risk."
The measure would require the Illinois State Board of Education to publish information about exemptions online.
A child's doctor or medical provider would be required to sign the form if parents are seeking an exemption for medical reasons.
