Chicago Mayor criticized for Rauner’s budget plan

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is being criticized for Governor Bruce Rauner’s priorities. That’s as Emanuel faces re-election next week.

Rauner’s proposal would cut millions of dollars that the state gives to cities. To Chicago, it’d mean less money for the CTA, and child care services.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel says:

"The idea that you would be looking at basic services and cuts to municipalities when you have a tax code that has giveaways to corporations in my view is the wrong priorities."

Even though Emanuel is critical of Rauner, that didn’t stop his opponents from attacking the mayor. Cook County Commissioner Chuy Garcia made Rauner’s budget about Emanuel, saying the two are wealthy and share the same “elite” corporate connections.

"This is part of an ideology of the rich and powerful."

In a statement, Alderman Bob Fioretti said Rauner and Emanuel would both work to degrade the rights of workers.

Willie Wilson, who supported Rauner’s campaign for governor, was not immediately available for comment.  Neither was William Dock Walls.
