Democrats already skeptical of Rauner's proposed budget

Democratic lawmakers in Springfield are already skeptical of Republican Governor Bruce Rauner’s proposed budget.

Rauner has said lower taxes mean Illinois can attract new companies and jobs - and pay for better government services.

Democrats, though, say lower taxes mean less money now for those in need - like young wards of the state.

Chicago Democrat Greg Harris.

"The governor talked about the fact that he was going to be a compassionate governor. I hope we see that and that we don’t end up balancing our budget on the backs of those who just are the least fortunate and don’t have a lot of Springfield lobbyists."

Harris says the state’s child welfare system faces big problems, and budget cuts will only hurt it more.
