U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago says a federal judge's ruling temporarily blocking President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration will delay but won't deter efforts at reform.
Gutierrez said in a Tuesday statement that the president's opponents have "no good legal case to be made." The White House on Tuesday promised to appeal U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's late Monday decision, which puts on hold Obama's orders that could spare as many as 5 million from deportation.
Gutierrez is a longtime activist for immigration reform. He says deporting millions of people is "absurd." He says immigration reform is about "defending families and making sure that children who are U.S. citizens grow up with their parents."
