If you’re an adult of a certain age, the measles vaccine you got as a kid might not be enough.
Dr. Tina Tan is a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Lurie Children’s Hospital. She says some of the shots given out between 1963 and 1967 were ineffective. Tan says it’s not going to be easy for adults to find out if they got an effective vaccine.
"And if they can’t find the documentation, it’s not going to hurt them to get a booster dose of the MMR vaccine."
Tan says current vaccinations are especially important for adults who are in contact with kids. But other high risk populations include health care workers, college students and international travelers.
