Obama's immigration orders could grow the Illinois economy

Peoria Public Radio

President Barack Obama's executive orders helping so-called undocumented immigrants stay in the U.S. could grow the Illinois economy.

That's according to an analysis by the president's council of economic advisers. Opponents to the executive actions say it could take jobs away from U.S. citizens. But Obama adviser Cecilia Munoz, says that's not true.

"The CEA's analysis also found that not only is there no harm to U.S.-born workers as a result of these executive actions, but actually U.S.-born workers' wages would increase by about $170 a year."

Munoz says the economy would grow because immigrants would be more likely to go to school and start a business without fear of deportation.
