A facility that houses wards of the state in northern Illinois is closing following a newspaper's reports of assault and other issues.
Rock River Academy in Rockford is ending its contract with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The state discontinued sending juveniles to the facility last month.
A statement from the 59-bed facility that serves girls with behavioral and mental health problems says there aren't enough other residents to "remain viable."

Rock River is owned by Universal Health Services Inc., which runs nearly 200 behavioral health facilities nationwide.
