Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed an executive order requiring state agencies and contractors to report how many minorities and veterans are in training and apprentice programs. Rauner signed the order Monday after participating in a service event to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The measure applies to labor organizations, contractors and subcontractors. They must report the information within 30 days.
The Winnetka Republican says the unemployment rate for minorities and veterans "is way too high." He says the order is aimed at revealing causes and identifying ways "to solve this injustice.
Rauner also joined volunteers with City Year Chicago to complete projects at Gage Park High School in Chicago. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel also attended.
