Rauner inauguration contributors reveal old, new friends

Donors to Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner's transition and inaugural celebration include established givers - and new friends, too.
The list of 162 individuals and groups that the Rauner transition team voluntarily disclosed represents hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for the Republican's transition and Monday's swearing-in festivities.
An Associated Press analysis shows that 58 previously contributed $1.74 million to Rauner's campaign. One new contributor is the Illinois Hospital Association. It gave $482,000 to Rauner's vanquished opponent, Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. An association spokesman did not have an immediate comment.
State law doesn't require such donations to be reported like campaign contributions. But Kent Redfield, a campaign finance expert at the University of Illinois at Springfield, says the donations can carry the same influence.
A Rauner spokesman did not immediately comment.
