State officials say anyone who collected unemployment insurance this year can sign up to be notified when a tax form needed to complete state and federal tax returns is available.
The 1099G form is needed to complete tax returns and is available for the last seven years. Unemployment insurance benefits are subject to taxes.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says there's an online signup to be notified in January when the forms are available. Registrants will be sent an emailed notice in January with further instructions.
State officials estimate the online program saved the department hundreds of thousands of dollars in postage and paper.
