Rauner suggests farmer could lead Ag department

Illinois' next governor is looking for someone who has harvested corn and soy to be in charge of the state's agriculture department. Governor-elect Bruce Rauner has not yet made any public announcements about who he will appoint to Cabinet posts.

But his suggestion that a farmer become the next Department of Ag director drew applause from the audience Monday at the Illinois Farm Bureau's annual meeting.
"I just want people of high talent, high integrity, who have expertise. I want farmers running our agriculture department, to benefit farmers.”

Rauner refrained from committing to naming a farmer to the post, but he said it's his strong preference.
