Rauner could follow income tax drop schedule

Illinois Governor-elect Bruce Rauner seems to be serious about letting the state’s income tax drop next year.
Bruce Rauner has always said he wanted lower income taxes. But he hasn’t specified how quickly that rate will drop.

State lawmakers set a schedule a few years ago - so Illinois residents would see a little more than a percent of their income back in their paychecks come January first.

Rauner says he intends to follow that schedule - even though it was set by the very politicians he frequently criticizes.

"We want to roll the income tax hike all the way back down to where it was in 2010. We’ll work that over time. And right now the law is 3.75 and that’s what we’re gonna manage with."

If the tax rate does drop - it could mean billions in cuts to state government.

Rauner says no cuts are off the table.
