It’s no secret that Emanuel and Rauner have a long standing friendship even though they stand on opposite sides of the aisle politically. Take the state income tax debate. Rauner campaigned on rolling it back, but Emanuel says he supports Governor Pat Quinn’s idea to keep it at 5 percent.
" I support it because you’re going to increase investments in education. I don’t support it, to just buy more gravel and fill in the gravel hole. "
Though the mayor says there will be some things he’ll need from Rauner when he becomes Governor.
"OK - How about this - more money. "
But besides that, Emanuel says he’s made clear that he wants Rauner to invest in Chicago education, public transportation and neighborhood parks. Emanuel says he also wants the state to boost the minimum wage, something that Rauner has said he’d support, but only with what he calls “pro-business reforms”
