Illinois Governor candidates woo women voters

Feminist activist Gloria Steinem is in Chicago today to stump for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. But the Democratic incumbent isn’t the only one working hard to get women’s votes.

The election for Illinois Governor is a really tight one.  So tight that multiple polls out this week showed that Pat Quinn and Bruce Rauner are within just a few points of each other.  And they’ve been targeting a certain segment of the Illinois population.

TAPE:  "If you think women should get equal pay for equal work, if you want our kids to have quality preschool…"

"If you’re ready to turn our state around and create new opportunities for our kids, then I hope you’ll vote for Bruce. "

That’s First Lady Michelle Obama in a new ad today for Quinn, followed by Diana Rauner in an ad for her husband Bruce.

Both campaigns have been pushing agendas they perceive as popular with women: education, workplace issues, healthcare and jobs.   And local pollsters say they’re not off base, a group critical to the outcome of this election will be  SUBURBAN WOMEN.
