Republican Bruce Rauner is out raising and outspending Democratic Governor Pat Quinn in the race for Illinois governor. Quarterly campaign financing reports were due Wednesday.
In the last quarterly report before the election, Rauner says he raised and spent more than 20 million dollars between July 1st and the end of September. Quinn raised about 8 million and spent more than 15.
The majority of Quinn’s money came from unions and other political committees. Rauner’s biggest contributor was himself. He gave his campaign 7.5 million dollars.
Since the March 18 primary the two major-party candidates have spent more than 43 million dollars combined. That’s already more than was spent in the last Illinois governor’s race, and this one has almost three weeks to go.
Libertarian candidate Chad Grimm reports raising no money in the last quarter.
