Peoria ADM fire quickly under control

Peoria Public Radio

A fire at the ADM Plant in Peoria was brought under control fairly quickly Monday afternoon.

Peoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Carr says the ADM workers were doing some maintenance work on a vessel. He says the plant had all the necessary permits and the workers were following safety precautions and they caught some bi-product on fire while they were welding..

Carr says, "they have their own suppression, they’ve got nozzles, their own hose lines. They had that on the fire upon our arrival. Basically they called us just to support them, just in case something happened with their fire suppression system.”

No one was injured. Carr says ADM probably could have put the fire out entirely with its own fire suppression system. But he says the Fire Department was able to provide backup in-part because of the safety collaboration it has with the ADM Peoria Plant team and their procedures for handling such matters.
