Quinn and Rauner criticize each other's positions on term limits

The candidates for Illinois governor both support term limits. But that hasn’t stopped them from criticizing each other for their stance on that issue.
Democratic Governor Pat Quinn tried 20 years ago to get Illinois voters to approve term limits for state lawmakers. But the state Supreme Court ruled term limits violate the state constitution.

Now, Quinn’s Republican opponent Bruce Rauner  is picking up where Quinn left off. So in effect, they both like term limits, but criticize how the other’s tried to enact them, and spent Thursday calling each other “phony.”
Here’s Rauner.

"If he really believed in term limits, he wouldn’t even be running again because he will have served 10 years in office. That’s too long. That’s too long. He has turned out to be a phony. Pat Quinn is a phony on term limits."

Quinn says: "He’s a phony. I think the bottom line is he didn’t help us when we were doing term limits way back 20 years ago."

Rauner is asking the Illinois Supreme Court to rule on his initiative in time for it to appear on November’s ballots. The top two elected Democrats in Springfield have held elected office since the 1970s.
