The term limits ballot question still questionable

The term limits initiative remains caught up in legal proceedings with just days left to get it on the November Ballot. An appellate court has yet to issue an opinion.

Republican nominee for governor Bruce Rauner says the state Supreme Court should decide the issue. Illinois' top justices denied a request made months ago to hear the case on an expedited basis.

Rauner calls that "tragic" and says the court should swiftly issue an opinion after the appellate court decides. "The Supreme Court justices know, that one way or another - whichever way the lower courts ruled - this was going to be appealed. And this an issue that is so important and so structurally important for the state, the Supreme Court should have taken it up from the beginning."

Rauner also called his opponent...Governor Quinn...a "phony" for not supporting the proposed constitutional referendum.

Meanwhile, Quinn's running mate, Paul Vallas questioned Rauner's motives. Vallas says Rauner didn't help Quinn back when he tried to get term limits 20 years ago.  "Look, it's great, apply political pressure on the Supreme Court.  Where were you? Where were you?"

Vallas says voters should ask why Rauner began his big push for term limits just as he began to run for office.
