The candidates for Illinois governor are again bickering over the state’s minimum wage. A referendum will ask voters this Fall whether the minimum wage should go up to 10 dollars an hour.
Democratic Governor Pat Quinn wants voters to say “yes” And he criticizes his Republican opponent for only supporting a higher wage - only if it’s paired with other business reforms.
“He is not for raising the minimum wage without conditions. The condition ought to be to help the people who work 40 hours a week do their job. They shouldn’t have to live in poverty. We should have a fair minimum wage.”
Republican Bruce Rauner says he supports raising Illinois’ minimum wage… If other policy changes are made - for example, giving more small businesses tax credits.
