Illinois is losing more residents than are moving in. IPR's MariamSobh reports.
For every four people that leave the state, only three people move here.
A report by The Illinois Policy Institute out this month highlights the fact that many folks are jumping over to neighboring states to get away from Illinois’ high taxes.
Ted Dabrowski is with the institute.
“People are leaving because they can’t find their jobs here. People are leaving because they can’t find good opportunities to earn money. People are leaving because the other states are becoming much more competitive.”
The top two most popular states for Illinois residents to migrate to include Florida and Texas. Both are states without an income tax.
Dabrowski says if Illinois wants to attract people and keep revenue in the state, it needs to reduce regulations, help entrepreneurs start businesses, lower taxes and put an end to corruption.
