Chicago Cubs ink new deal with WBBM

The Chicago Cubs new partnership with CBS-owned WBBM means more concerts at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs are ending their 90 year relationship with WGN and starting a new 7 year partnership with WBBM. GN said it couldn’t renew its contract because the deal had been losing money and would continue to do so.

Rod Zimmerman is Senior Vice President of CBS Radio in Chicago. He expects this agreement to be profitable.

"We have a lot more assets to offer to clients and customers that buy or sponsor the Cubs along with our radio stations and digital assets. We have a different agreement and different partnership than what they had."

The deal allows the Cubs to promote across CBS’s 7 Chicago stations. It also expands CBS’s music business, including more live music events at Wrigley Field.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
