Vice President Joe Biden was in Granite City Wednesday. He spoke about how the federal stimulus act helped stem the tide of a deep economic recession.
Biden was commemorating the five-year anniversary of the federal stimulus act. He chose America's Central Port in Granite City because it received $14.5 million to build a new harbor. He says those investments secure long-term jobs and keep America competitive. Biden went so far to say that the stimulus act prevented the economic recession from becoming a quote depression.
"Every dollar of public investment and infrastructure has a multiplier effect on job growth and private sector investment. Folks, these are the types of investments we should do no matter what, even if we had never gone through the recession."
Biden called for more spending on transportation infrastructure during his speech.
