Republican State Senator Jim Oberweis is again looking to go to Washington. Oberweis, who's from Sugar Grove, won his seat last year. It was his first win after several failed attempts at public office, including runs for governor, Congress and U.S. Senate. The magnate of Oberweis Dairy told opponents of same-sex marriage Wednesday at a rally in Springfield that he wants to try running for the U.S. Senate again.
"Several people have asked me today if I'm going to run for the U.S. Senate against Dick Durbin, and the shorter answer is: if we get enough petitions signed to file in time, I will be there as a candidates to retire him permanently."
Downers Grove businessman Doug Truax and Kane County Regional School board member Chad Koppie are also making bids for the GOP nomination. Durbin is the number two Democrat in the U.S. Senate, where he has served since 1997.
