Illinois’ largest capital construction program expires next year and Governor Pat Quinn says he hopes to launch a similar program.
During a stop Monday in Urbana, Governor Quinn unveiled nearly $6.5 million in state support for transportation projects in east central Illinois.
The money comes from Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now program, which began in 2010.
QUINN: “We have to understand if we don’t build, we don’t invest, we don’t grow.”
The Illinois Jobs Now program expires next year, and Quinn says he’s pushing for another capital construction plan, but it’s unclear how it would be funded.
QUINN: “Well, we’ll get to that. You know. Obviously, that’s a key part of the equation.”
A question that lingers as a legislative committee works on resolving Illinois’ $100 billion pension crisis.
