Some Illinois Congressmen are more sure than others when it comes to authorizing a U.S. military strike in Syria. That will be at the top of the agenda when Congress reconvenes Monday. IPR'S Alex Keefe reports.
On the one hand, there are lawmakers like Bill Foster, a Democrat from Naperville. Foster says he’s leaning toward voting yes, but wants to make sure the scope of any U.S. military action isn’t too big.
"I would like to see significant restrictions, both on the time scale, and the scope of military activities that it authorizes," says Foster.
On the other hand, Republican Adam Kinzinger, from north central Illinois, seems to have the opposite concern.
"I’d be more likely to be concerned its not big enough. Um, however, I think even a limited strike would send the message that needs to be sent," says Kinzinger.
Kinzinger is a solidly in FAVOR of a military response. But he says President Obama hasn’t done a good job convincing Americans about the need for a U.S. strike in Syria, and he doesn’t think Congress will sign off on it, either.
