The president of Illinois' flagship university says he hopes to renovate the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago.
U. of I. President Bob Easter says the proposal includes remodeling operating rooms and upgrading equipment. He says the out-of-date technology makes it difficult to give top-notch medical care.
“This is high-tech medical devices that are important when you're doing transplant surgeries and high-end procedures.”
Easter says he believes the price tag would be 100-million dollars. He says the hospital could raise the money on its own if not for mandatory federal budget reductions that have slowed down health care payments. Instead, Easter says the university is looking into selling bonds. Easter couldn't offer a timeline for the project, because he says they first have to figure out how to pay for the bonds.
