The US had threatened to impose sanctions that would affect 10 billion dollars in US projects in China. But China agreed to make a public committment not to sell such technology in the future.

This is a community of mostly Republican seniors that has served as a stopover for political candidates. Florida has cast its votes for the Republican presidential candidate since 1976...but these seniors seem to have a lackluster support for presumptive Republican nominee Bob Dole.

Robert talks with Newsweek Washington correspondent Michael Isikoff about today's report that Bruce Lindsey, a close advisor to President Clinton, has been named as a co-conspirator in the current Whitewater trial. Although Lindsey is not being indicted, this latest news is more trouble for the White House.
Eros Asteroid
NPR's Richard Harris reports that an Italian researcher has calculated that a huge asteroid could, theoretically, be knocked off its orbit and eventually collide with Earth. But, according to a paper being published in the journal Nature, the asteroid, called Eros, would not hit for at least 100,000, and there's only a 50-50 chance it would hit Earth in the next 100 million years.

Jacki speaks with reporter Denise Hamilton of Wired Magazine about the problem of computer software copyright infringement in the United States. This week, the US announced that it would impose trade sanctions on China because illegal reproductions of computer software are being sold there for a fraction of the price of authentic software. Hamilton says that the problem is serious WITHIN our borders as software bootleggers are becoming ever-more sophisticated.
Welfare Reform
NPR's John Nielsen reports on the latest skirmish over welfare reform. Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole is planning to give a speech atttacking the president's record on welfare reform this week. But in a speech this weekend, the president tried to beat him to the punch by praising a radical reform plan championed by Wisconsin's Republican governor.
