The West Los Angeles VA Medical Center is a nearly 400-acre campus whose onetime sole purpose was to house veterans, but some say it has lost sight of that mission. The Department of Veterans Affairs has been renting chunks of the land, mostly to enterprises that have nothing to do with helping veterans.

A recent study found 1 in 10 American men and 1 in 14 women has had a kidney stone. Being obese or diabetic seems to raise the risk of getting them. Now lasers are becoming the treatment-of-choice for kidney stones in academic medical centers.

Republicans have decided to delay the official start of their presidential nominating convention until Tuesday. Tropical Storm Isaac is causing weather-related issues around Tampa, Florida. As the convention is about to begin, polls show GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is tied with President Obama.

Ron Paul Fires Up University Of South Florida Crowd
Rep. Ron Paul, who challenged Mitt Romney during the GOP primary season, hasn't endorsed Romney. Paul won't be speaking at the convention, which upsets his supporters. At Sunday's rally, thousands cheered the loudest when Paul repeated his anti-war message, and called for an end to the Federal Reserve.
